In 1972 Peter and Susan Risser formed San Juan Canvas Company and for more than 30 years crafted many a sail and canvas works out of the "little hole in the wall by the sea" which is now located just under the San Juan Yacht Club. The Rissers built a solid reputation for high quality canvas, as well as being one of the friendliest shops around welcoming many a wayward sailor into the shop to shoot the breeze. In 2006, the Rissers passed the seam ripper to Patrick and Andra Pillsbury whose continued emphasis on quality, craftsmanship and community goodwill remained the focus at San Juan Canvas.
Another husband and wife team have taken the helm to continue this longstanding tradition. Derek Steere and Lauren Cohen both possess a lifelong love of boats and all things nautical. As recovering teachers, rather then sail off to the South Seas, we landed here on San Juan Island where we also own Treehouse Remodeling as well as Places I Love Photography.
